Taking The Time To Get Your Divorce Right

Divorce can be one of a person’s most painful experiences, but that doesn’t mean you have to face it alone. An experienced lawyer can help you manage the stress of divorce by guiding you through the legal process and answering your questions quickly and thoroughly. I have helped countless families throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and can help you start your next chapter.

At Hope Family Law P.C., I will inform you about the status of your case and give you the tools you need to make smart decisions. I understand this can be a confusing time in your life, and I am committed to providing the legal guidance you need to end your marriage on your terms. Once you have decided to end your marriage, the best thing you can do is formalize that decision as quickly as possible to move into the next chapter of your life.

Specialized, Local Legal Knowledge

I am one of a select number of attorneys certified as a family law specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. With this specialized training and knowledge, my firm is uniquely suited to help you understand Texas family law and make it work.

For instance, it’s important to understand the state’s specific requirements to file for divorce in Texas. One party must have lived in Texas for six months and in the county where the divorce is filed for 90 days. To initiate proceedings, one spouse must file a petition for dissolution and then notify the other spouse that the petition has been filed with the court.

Texas law imposes a 60-day waiting period before the divorce can be finalized. If the parties can agree on all the issues, an uncontested divorce can be completed within a few months. Alternatively, a contentious divorce that goes to litigation can take years to become final. In the case of a contested divorce, mediation can sometimes be used to resolve without litigation, saving you time and money.

In addition to officially ending a marriage, I can help you manage related issues, including:

  • Property division
  • Dividing a family-owned business
  • Child support and child custody
  • Obtaining child support for an adult disabled child
  • Obtaining, or defending against, a protective order in cases involving family violence

I will walk you through the details of your case and help you decide the path that works best for your new chapter.
